Museum Speaker: 2004 - National Building Museum
I made this bizarre speaker housing while working at the National Building Museum. There was an exhibit about masonry where various architects had created art installations using stone and one of the pieces was this enormous blobby room of concrete with 2 oscillating focused speaker arrays. The piece had been designed in CAD to make a unique audio environment, and you would hear different effects as the speakers moved sound across the piece. Several months into the exhibit, the servo motors on the speaker died, and I tried to create a quick and dirty replacement using a gear motor and some plywood. I didnít even put bearings on any of the axles, so it never really worked very well, but it did run enough for whatever important event they needed them for.
